Choila, also known as Choyla, is a traditional and special delicacy of the Newar community, made from spiced and grilled buffalo meat. Although traditionally prepared using buffalo meat, it is now also made with mutton, chicken, duck, and even mushrooms. This dish is typically eaten with beaten rice (chiura) and is generally very spicy.
In the Newar community, Choila is considered indispensable during festivals and special occasions and is enjoyed alongside various other accompaniments. It also holds significant importance during Samay Baji, a major component of Newar cuisine. Choila is not just a dish; it represents cultural and social values, playing a vital role in the festivals and celebrations of the Newar community.
